What are Equipment Skills?
Skills obtained from Armor Pieces
Equipping armor and weapons in Monster Hunter gives you monster hunter skills that specialize how you play. Every piece of equipment has a list of skills that come with it, and you can pick and choose which ones suit your play style. If you like to attack, defend, or both, the right monster hunter skills can really help in battles.
There are two broad skill categories for monster hunters. The Weapon Skills, like Speed Sharpening and Critical Eye, are attached to your weapon and are used to boost your attacking power. The Armor Skills, like Speed Eating, on the other hand, are placed on your armor and offer many various passive powers throughout your hunt. Understanding how these skills distinguish is the primary thing to decipher in setting the perfect loadout.
It is also an effortless process to upgrade your gear when it comes to maintaining your monster hunter skills at top level. If you upgrade a weapon in the same tree, you will not lose skills that you have previously unlocked. Instead, upgrading will merely increase or enhance your skills as you progress along the route of upgrading your weapon, so you can always boost your fighting capability.
If you want to see what monster hunter skills you currently have in your inventory, it is easy enough to do. All you have to do is go to a tent or press Start, then Equipment Info and lastly Skill Info. You can page through using the L1 or R1 buttons and see all of your monster hunter skills, helping you plan out your next move in your grand hunts.
Group Skills

Master Mounter | Makes it easier to mount monsters. | Scaling Prowess |
Fortify | Increases attack and defense after fainting during a quest. (Can be used twice. Does not apply to some quests.) | Inspiring Pelt |
Master Gatherer | Increases gathering speed, and prevents knock back when gathering or carving. | Flexible Leathercraft |
What are Group Skills?
Skills from Equipping Armor within the Same Group
Group Skills are a new feature in Monster Hunter Wilds that enable you to gain bonus monster hunter skills by wearing armor that shares the same group tag. That is, you don't have to stick to one set of armor to gain extra benefits. You can mix and match pieces of armor as long as they share the Group Skill.
These group skills are like Set Bonus Skills with a twist. You don't need to wear armor from a single set but simply need a certain amount of armor pieces that have the group skill. This allows more flexibility and creativity in how you set up your loadout.
With Group Skills, you're still able to obtain more monster hunter skills even when your armor isn't all from the same set. This new method of armor construction enables you to customize your equipment to the skills you want, and construct your equipment around your personal playstyle.
Should you desire to look over your monster hunter skills, you can do this from the interior of a tent or through the use of the Start button. Just go to Equipment Info, and then select Skill Info. Use the L1 or R1 buttons to page through and see all of the skills that you have equipped.
Set Bonus Skills
Skill | Effect | Set Bonus |
---|---|---|
Powerhouse I | Temporarily increases attack +10 after a successful Power Clash or Offset attack | Doshaguma's Might |
Powerhouse II | TBD | Doshaguma's Might |
What are Set Bonus Skills?
Skills obtained by Equipping Armor within the Same Set
Set Bonus Skills are a cool way to boost your monster hunter skills by wearing a matching set of armor. When you equip armor from the same set, you unlock extra abilities that can give you an edge in battle.
For example, if you wear two pieces of the Doshaguma armor set, you will receive the Powerhouse I skill. This skill adds extra power to your attacks, helping you take down monsters more efficiently.
Using Set Bonus Skills lets you customize your monster hunter skills to match your playstyle. By choosing armor sets that work well together, you can build a loadout that gives you unique benefits and makes your hunts even more exciting.
To check out your current monster hunter skills, simply visit a tent or press the Start button. Then, go to Equipment Info, select Skill Info, and use L1 or R1 to flip through the pages. This way, you can see all the skills you have equipped and plan your next hunt accordingly.

What are Food Skills?
Skills Obtained from Eating Meals
Food Skills are a special type of monster hunter skills that you can get by eating meals. The ingredients you use when cooking hold these powerful skills, adding an extra edge to your hunts. This means every meal you prepare can boost your abilities and help you become a better monster hunter.
Before you head out to fight monsters, it’s a smart idea to cook and eat a meal. The food skills you gain provide useful buffs that improve your performance in battle. With these buffs, you can take on tougher monsters and stay in the fight longer.
To make meals and unlock food skills, just go to your tent and select the BBQ Menu. From there, you can choose from a variety of meal options that will give you different monster hunter skills. The process is simple and allows you to customize your buffs based on the challenges you face.
Remember, food skills are a great way to boost your overall monster hunter skills. Always cook and eat a meal before a hunt to ensure you’re ready for any monster encounter. This extra preparation can make a big difference in your success during your adventures.
